Can I open PDF file attachments from within SnapperMail?

SnapperMail handles attachments by passing them to the PalmOS Exchange Manager. From there, SnapperMail has no involvement with the display of the attachments. With that in mind, yes you can open PDF file attachments from within SnapperMail provided that you have either the most recent version of DocsToGo (version 8+) or PalmPDF installed on your handheld. Information about DocsToGo can be found at the http://www.dataviz.com web site. PalmPDF can be found at the http://www.metaviewsoft.de/en/Software/PalmOS/Freeware/Other/ site. Both SnapperMail and one of those other programs must be installed in the main RAM of the handheld.

Which IMAP Servers work with SnapperMail Enterprise?

See the IMAP Server compatability chart for details.

I run MS Exhange / Domino / Groupwise with thousands of messages in the Inbox. Will SnapperMail perform okay with kind of setup?

Yes, Enterprise Edition works very well with corporate mailboxes containing thousands of messages. You may configure a sync window that ignores older messages to improve performance.

Does SnapperMail support URL, email, and phone links?

Yes! URLs, emails and phone numbers in your messages are hot-tappable. SnapperMail supports the standard OS mechanisms from opening URLs as well as some special mechanisms where dictated by some browsers. The list of browsers that work with SnapperMail include: Blazer, Eudora Web, Palm WebPro, Novarra, EIS Web. Browsers that DO NOT work with SnapperMail include: Xiino, Avantgo, and PocketLink (these browsers do not support standard OS mechanisms).

Can I run SnapperMail from the memory card?

SnapperMail will work from the memory card but due to limitations in Palm OS, it's not recommended since you will lose the following functionality:
  • Automatic Fetching
  • Quick Connect from the Palm Tungsten's Address Book
  • Mailto: URL support from browsers
  • "Send" support in third party apps (i.e. using SnapperMail to send files from other apps)

Does SnapperMail support rich-text HTML messages?

Yes, SnapperMail renders HTML messages. Please note some complex messages will look a little weird on a small Palm-sized screen and advanced HTML objects like embedded images and tables will not be rendered.

Does SnapperMail support SSL?

Yes, Premier and Enterprise editions support secure sockets layer. SnapperMail's SSL implementation supports OS versions as early as OS 3.5 right up to the very latest. This makes SnapperMail the only email client that has SSL POP3/IMAP4 attachment capability on ALL present day smartphones.

What's SSL? It's a secure protocol that encypts the "data pipe" between the client and server, so all communications between your device and the remote server is secure. Some ISPs specifically require SSL to be supported, for others it's an option you can opt to use.

Which mail services are supported by SnapperMail?

SnapperMail supports nearly all of the popular mail services via a POP3 protocol. In the case of Enterprise Edition IMAP4 protocol is also supported. Some popular mail services that work with SnapperMail include:
  • AOL Mail (Enterprise Edition only)
  • Comcast
  • EarthLink
  • GMail (Premier / Enterprise Editions only)
  • FastMail
  • Mac.com
  • MailBlocks (Enterprise Edition only)
  • USA.net
  • Yahoo Mail Plus
  • Most ISPs using POP3 or IMAP4
(Account configurations for most of these services are listed in the support section.) In addition Enterprise Edition is compatible with MS Exchange, Lotus Domino, and Novell Groupwise via IMAP4.

Can I sync my desktop mail onto SnapperMail?

SnapperMail is a wireless email application only. It does not sync messages with your desktop.

Can I open Microsoft Office attachments that are sent to me?

Yes, both of the leading Palm MS Office solutions, Documents To Go (v6.0 or better) and Quickoffice Premier (v7.0 or better), support SnapperMail. Either of these apps need to be installed in order to view and edit MS Office files. SnapperMail can also send these files directly from your handheld. Please note that both SnapperMail and the software you are using to view the MS Office documents must be installed into the main RAM of the handheld (not on an expansion card).

Can I check multiple email accounts with SnapperMail?

Yes. The fully registered version of SnapperMail supports unlimited email accounts. Note, however, the free trial version does not.

How are attachments opened using SnapperMail?

Much like your desktop email client, SnapperMail does not open attachments. SnapperMail fetches emails and delivers attachments to other applications to open.

You must have a compatible application installed to open each respective file. To help out with the most common file types, we've bundled ZIP and Jpeg viewing software with SnapperMail and many of the built-in applications can open other common files such as vCards, Text, vCalander, PRC, PDB files, etc.

What's new and very cool about the way SnapperMail handles attachments is that it does everything in native desktop format. Unlike the competition, we don't convert the file into a scaled down Palm format database usable only on Palm handhelds. Instead, what you get with SnapperMail is the real deal. You can not only open the file locally in its true format, you can export it to other generic devices like laptops, cellphones, and PocketPCs by way of memory card or beaming.

How does SnapperMail work?

SnapperMail is what we call a "fat client" email app. It works exactly the same way as your desktop email program such as Outlook Express - it connects directly to your mail server and retrieves mail complete with attachments in its raw unadulterated form. It then presents the attachments to other apps to open.

By contrast many of the mail services available, such as Visto MessageXpress and Inbox To Go, follow a "thin client" model. These services put an intermediary bunch of servers between your handheld and your mail server, stripping and simplifying the content.

SnapperMail's unique approach gives our customers the advantage of not needing to pay ongoing service charges and their content is far richer with improved reliability at the sacrifice of bandwidth usage.
